چکیده

This paper describes a computational approach to modeling the complex mechanical properties of muscles and tendons under physiological conditions of recruitment and kinematics. It is embodied as a software package for use with MatlabTM and Simulink that allows the creation of realistic musculotendon elements for use in motor control simulations. The software employs graphic user interfaces (GUI) and dynamic data exchange (DDE) to facilitate building custom muscle model blocks and linking them to kinetic analyses of complete musculoskeletal systems. It is scalable in complexity and accuracy. The model is based on recently published data on muscle and tendon properties measured in feline slowand fast-twitch muscle, and incorporates a novel approach to simulating recruitment and frequency modulation of different fiber-types in mixed muscles. This software is distributed freely over the Internet at http://ami.usc.edu/mddf/virtualmuscle. © 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

The existence of precise temporal relations in sequences of spike intervals, referred to as ‘spatiotemporal patterns’, is suggested by brain theories that emphasize the role of temporal coding. Specific analytical methods able to assess the significance of such patterned activity are extremely important to establish its function for information processing in the brain. This study proposes a new...

An Approach to Multiple Attribute Decision Making Based on Three Preference Information on Alternatives

This paper investigates the multiple attribute decision making problem with preference information on alternatives, in which multiple decision makers give their preference information in three forms, i.e., preference orderings, utility values and fuzzy preference relation. A new approach is presented to make use of both the decision makers' social fuzzy preference relation on alternatives and d...

Recordings of spike trains made with microwires or silicon electrodes include more noise from various sources that contaminate the observed spike shapes compared with recordings using sharp microelectrodes. This is a particularly serious problem if spike shape sorting is required to separate the several trains that might be observed on a particular electrode. However, if recordings are made wit...

Stimulus response latency is the delay between stimulus onset and the evoked modulation in neural activity. A common technique to estimate latencies involves binning the spike arrival times to form a peri-stimulus histogram. This histogram is smoothed using a fixed bandwidth. The estimated latency is the first time following stimulus onset in which the smoothed histogram exceeds the midpoint be...

Evaluation of electron microscopic images of serial sections is a time-consuming process requiring a high level of expertise. Here we present an algorithm to ease and accelerate this process. It is a modification of an algorithm successfully used in computer vision for object recognition. However, rather than recognising individual structures, we estimate the spatial mapping of a whole section ...
